SCIATICA
Sciatica Sciatica (also called lumbosacral radiculopathy) is pain along the sciatic nerves. These nerves run from the lower back, through the buttocks, and down the legs, ending just below the knee. Symptoms Diagnosis Prevention Treatment Sciatica On each side of the body, the sciatic nerve runs from the lower spine, behind the hip joint, down the buttock and back of the knee. There the sciatic nerve divides into several branches and continues to the foot. When the sciatic nerve or the nerve roots that make up the sciatic nerve are pinched, inflamed, or damaged, pain—sciatica—may radiate along the length of the sciatic nerve to the foot. Symptoms of Sciatica Sciatica usually affects only one side. The pain is felt from the low back, through the buttock, and down the back of either leg.
