DONT JUST THROW YOUR PLACENTA AWAY!!

Many see the placenta as just "medical waste," often forgotten after birth and discarded.

Here is why a specialist should handle it, not the waste bin.👇👇

1️⃣ The "Black Box" of Pregnancy ✈️

You know how when a plane crashes, investigators hunt for the Black Box? They do that because it records everything that happened during the flight.

It records how much oxygen the baby got, how much food arrived, and if there was any stress or infection. It tells us the story of how the pregnancy actually went.

2️⃣ The Mystery of the "Small Baby"

We see this often: A mother eats well, takes her vitamins, rests, and does everything right. Yet, the baby is born very tiny.Family members might blame "witches" or bad luck. But looking at the placenta often reveals "dead patches" where blood stopped flowing.

This proves the baby was small because the organ failed, not because the mother failed. It takes the guilt away.

3️⃣ The Hidden Sugar Problem

Sometimes a mother tests normal for diabetes during pregnancy, but then delivers a giant baby. It is confusing.

But under a microscope, the placenta tells the truth. If it looks swollen and thick, it is proof that sugar levels were high, even if the blood tests missed it.

This is an early warning to the mother to watch her health so she doesn't get diabetes later in life.

4️⃣ The Silent Infection 🦠

Not all infections give you a fever.Sometimes, bacteria climb silently from the vagina into the womb. You feel fine, but the water breaks too early or labour starts months before it should. The placenta will show signs of this "silent battle." Knowing this helps doctors give the baby the right antibiotics immediately, preventing serious illness.

5️⃣ Explaining the Unexplained Loss

This is the hardest part. When a baby’s heart stops beating inside the womb, the silence is deafening.Examining the placenta is often the only way to find the truth. It can show if a blood clot blocked the supply or if the placenta peeled away too soon.Finding a physical cause moves the tragedy from "Mystery" to "Medical Reality." It helps parents heal.

6️⃣ The Root of High Blood Pressure

If you had dangerous high blood pressure (Pre-Eclampsia), the problem usually started in the placenta. The lab report will often show that the placenta didn't "dig deep enough" into the womb lining. This tells the doctor: "This wasn't just stress; this was a plumbing failure."

7️⃣ Stopping the Self-Blame

Mothers are experts at blaming themselves."Did I work too hard?" "Did I lift that bucket?" "Did I eat too much pepper?"A report on the placenta is the only thing powerful enough to stop this.

When a doctor says, "This was a structural problem. Nothing you did caused this," it lifts a heavy burden off the mother’s heart.

8️⃣ Planning for the Next Baby

This is the most practical reason. If your doctor finds out why it went wrong this time, he can change the plan for next time.He might give you blood thinners or different medicines for the next pregnancy. It changes "Hope" into a "Plan."

9️⃣ It Is Not Automatic (You Must Ask)

In most hospitals here, we don't check every placenta because it costs money. If you have a healthy baby and a normal birth, the placenta is thrown away. But if you had a hard birth or a sick baby, you have to speak up.

Tell your doctor: "Please, I want the lab to check my placenta."

🤷‍♂️ Q & A

Q: Do I need to do this if I had a normal, easy birth?

A: No. If the baby is crying well, weighs fine, and you are healthy, the placenta has finished its job perfectly. You don't need to check it.

Q: Can I still take it home for burial if I send it to the lab?

A: No. This is important to know. The lab has to cut it up and put it in strong chemicals to preserve it. You cannot get it back for a traditional burial. You have to choose: Do you want the tradition, or do you want the answers?

Q: Is it free?

A: Usually, no. You have to pay a lab fee. But compared to the cost of not knowing why your baby was sick, many parents find it worth it.

📌 SHARE this with a pregnant friend. She has packed the diapers and the baby clothes, but she probably hasn't planned what to do with the "Afterbirth."
