WHY GO AND REGISTER FIRST?

You walk into the hospital in pain , scared and desperate.

Instead of help, you hear: “Please go and register first.”

It feels heartless.

But let me explain this calmly, as someone who has worked in the wards, in theatre.

But that “useless folder” is actually a safety device.

Check comments to know why πŸ‘‡

1️⃣ The "Medical Ghost" Problem

If I treat you without a folder, you are a "Medical Ghost."

I might give you a strong injection for pain now. But in 2 hours, when my shift ends and the next doctor/anesthetist/nurse comes, there is no record of you.

They won't know what I gave you. They might accidentally give you the same drug again.

The Folder is the only way the Morning Team knows what the Night Team did.2️⃣ The "Russian Roulette" (Allergies)

You are in pain, so you might forget to tell me you are allergic to Penicillin.

If I rush to treat you without your file (which usually has your history), I am shooting in the dark.

I might stop the pain, but trigger a severe allergic reaction that closes your throat.

Registration forces us to pause and check your background.3️⃣ If It Isn't Written, It Didn't Happen

Medicine is a legal profession.

If I treat you and something goes wrong, but there is no file, there is no proof of what I did to save you.

The folder protects YOU (proving you were treated/neglected) and it protects US (proving we followed the right steps).

Without it, we are just two people arguing in a room.4️⃣ The “Quick-Quick” Mistake

Medicine is not Fast Food.

Fast food is quick, but it's messy.

Medicine must be precise.

We need your age, weight, and history to calculate anesthesia and drug doses. Guessing your details because we skipped registration leads to overdosing.5️⃣ The "Emergency" Exception 🚨

Now, let’s be very clear.

If you are unconscious, seizing, or bleeding heavily, NOBODY should ask for a folder.

In true life-or-death emergencies, we treat first and register later.

If a hospital asks a dying man for a folder before CPR or any other life saving intervention, that is a failure of the system, not the rule.6️⃣ But...

If you are conscious, walking, and talking, even if you are in severe pain, we will ask for the folder, at least the one accompanying should be getting you registered while we are fixing your immediate need7️⃣ The Real Solution

The problem isn't the registration; it is the Communication.

If a nurse shouts "Go and register," you get angry.

If a nurse says, "Please get a folder so I can see your history and treat you safely," you understand.8️⃣ A Message to Patients and Relatives

We aren't trying to delay you.

We are trying to ensure that in our rush to help, we don't make a mistake that hurts you more.9️⃣ A Message to Colleagues

Explain the Why.

Don't just give orders. A patient in pain is a patient in fear. Reassurance costs nothing.πŸ”Ÿ The Bottom Line

The folder isn't just paper. It is your identity, your history, and your safety net.

πŸ“Œ SHARE this to bridge the gap between the angry patient in the waiting room and the stressed staff in the consulting room.
